Entering Costa Rica Safe and Sound

We had a very nice flight down - 5 hrs flight direct from Toronto, with 1/4 full plane and free wine (hmm, it's after 12 somewhere isn't it?). A good omen - all bags arrived quickly with no damage, and through customs without a question. An eerie passage through immigration - both our passports viewed, scanned, papers reviewed, signed and stamped without a single word from the official. It was like a silent movie except for the percussive thumps of the entry stamp and scratching of initials on every available piece of paper in sight.

Met on time by our smiling friends and guardian angels from San Ramon - Luis Alexis Jiménez Barboza and father Luis Emilio Jiménez Esquivel, with pickup truck for our 45 min drive from airport. Our 185 lbs of luggage (two backpacks, two carryon suitcases, hammered dulcimer, guitar and day pack) were a formidable pile to carry any distance. Outside 27C and sunny.

Felt good to recognize familiar sights on InterAmericana highway (the "Piste") and into San Ramon. There is something engaging about this town that feels like home - hard to pin down, but we're putting more trust in our gut than our head these days - so it must be real.
