New Plan - We have Return Tickets for September 12

¡Don't worry - this is not really going to happen! - just another service-oriented feature of Air Canada.

When departing Toronto, Air Canada would not allow us on the flight to Costa Rica unless we had a return ticket. Apparently if they fly us to Costa Rica and for some reason we are denied access to the country, then it is the responsibility of the airline to take us back home, and the airline gets a $10,000 fine. Therefore we were each required to purchase a fully refundable ticket from Costa Rica to Toronto ($1,071 each) which we did not intend to use, just to transfer the risk from the airline onto the traveller. We did this and today (Sep 4) cancelled this flight and hopefully will obtain our refund.

While this is a rational requirement, it would really be in customer's interest to tell people at time of sale of the one-way ticket.
